History Come to Life Perhaps it's the marvelous past of the Kfar Ruth area, known for centuries for its winemaking, or maybe it's the family passion for wine. Whatever the reason, Tal Maor has clearly got the "bug" of winemaking. The Ruth Vineyard in Kfar Ruth is surrounded by dozens of age-old winepresses, where grapes were crushed in ancient times. According to archeologists, grapes were grown here by the inhabitants of ancient Modi'in.
On this very land, Tal Maor revives the ancient Hebrew tradition of winemaking |

The Winery The winery is located amidst the Kfar Ruth greenhouses, overlooking pastoral, tree-covered hills and country houses. It is filled with the scent of wine, aging in barrels that lie along the walls of a long, dark room. The fermentation and manufacturing hall contains a winepress, pumps and a fermentation tank. A nearby lab carefully monitors the various phases of production.
The winery produces Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Petite Syrah and Pinot Noir wines. But Tal is especially proud of the winery's Port wine. Carefully selected grapes are left on the vine after the first vintage, to reach a high sugar level and then go through a special process in the winery. Finally, the wine is aged in the sun, just like in the Porto region of Portugal, the birthplace of Port |

The Winemaker - Tal Maor Tal started by making wine at home, until he finally realized his dream to make wine on a larger scale. He purchased a few hundred kilograms of grapes to make the first barrels, while experimenting and studying. The enthusiastic reaction encouraged Tal to go ahead. He consulted winemakers and other professionals, as well as attending winemaking and wine tasting courses. But he still believes the only way to understand the art of making wine is through everyday work in the winery and the vineyard, studying each and every barrel, sensing the difference in taste, bouquet and color.
The winemaker's work demands careful attention to detail, such as the length of fermentation and the storage temperature. He follows the manufacturing process closely, from the vineyard to the bottle, in order to create a unique taste. It is a work invested with love and care |

The Vineyards There are plans for a permanent vineyard to be planted near the winery itself, 300 meters above sea level, where the ancient vineyards once stood. Meanwhile, the winery uses grapes from the high Jerusalem Mountains and from selected vineyards in Samaria.
Tal watches the tending of these vineyards all year round. When the grapes ripen, they are thoroughly examined to ensure that only healthy, ripe and juicy grapes are brought to the winery. |

A Family Winery During the grape harvest, the whole family joins in the hard work which includes receiving the grapes, destemming, crushing the grapes and finally the whole fermentation process, including separating the must. At the end of each day, the family gathers to taste the new vintage and older wines.
Tal's dream has become the family's reality. His wife, his young daughters and the whole family play an important role in the work of the winery, finding enjoyment in the entire production process. |

The Vision In a relatively short time, Tal Maor has realized his dream to make wine in his own winery. He now hopes to gradually increase production as well as the variety of wines he makes.
Tal has a vision of a winery in the Modi'in region producing wine from local vineyards. That vision includes the local population taking part in the winemaking, in the harvest celebrations, learning about the fascinating history of winemaking and enjoying the wine and the true joy that accompanies it. |
